When it comes to the look of a home, the view from the curb is everything. You can make all of the upgrades, renovations, and implement all of the design strategies you want inside of a home, but what really matters is the outside of it. Keeping things looking good outdoors means a neatly manicured lawn and a nice mailbox, but sometimes the problem is just a dirty exterior. Here are three things every homeowner needs to do to make sure the home is looking spotless.
1. Cleaning the Gutters
The first thing homeowners should do is make sure that the gutters are cleaned. This should probably be done about twice a year — once in the fall before the snow starts to fly, and once in the spring when all the ice melts. This will keep the gutters from accumulating standing water, which is a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Additionally, it will keep plants from growing and unsightly debris from piling up in the gutters.
2. Pressure Washing the Siding
Another thing that every homeowner should do is pressure wash the siding of the home. Residential pressure washing typically involves using a high pressure hose to wash dirt and debris from the side of a home. Residential pressure washing is probably the easiest way to wash the exterior of a home — it’s not like using a bucket and a sponge is really a realistic alternative.
3. Washing the Windows
Pressure washing is good to give the windows a once-over, but they really ought to be washed individually to avoid having those pesky water spots from the hose. Some exterior window washing solutions use things like vinegar and is simply sprayed over the window, but it’s probably worth getting an extended reach wiper and giving each pane a bit of attention.
